SUPREME COURT OF CANADA
PRESS RELEASE -- REVISED
There will be a ceremony to mark the appointment of the Right Honourable Beverley McLachlin, P.C., as Chief Justice of Canada and as a member of the Supreme Court of Canada at 10:45 a.m., Monday, January 17, 2000 in the Main Courtroom of the Supreme Court of Canada. It is expected that there will be remarks by The Honourable Claire L’Heureux-Dubé, The Honourable Anne McLellan, P.C., Minister of Justice, Ms. Gillian Wallace, Deputy Attorney General of British Columbia, Mr. Eugene Meehan, President of the Canadian Bar Association,and Mr. Karl Warner, Q.C., President of the Law Society of British Columbia. It is expected, as well, that Chief Justice McLachlin will be speaking on this occasion.

La cérémonie pour marquer la nomination de la très honorable Beverley McLachlin, c.p., comme juge en chef du Canada et comme juge de la Cour suprême du Canada aura lieu le lundi 17 janvier 2000 à 10 h 45 dans la salle d'audience principale de la Cour suprême du Canada. Des allocutions devraient être prononcées par l'honorable Claire L’Heureux-Dubé, le ministre de la Justice, l'honorable Anne McLellan, c.p., la sous-procureure générale de la Colombie-Britannique, Mme Gillian Wallace, le président de l’association du Barreau canadien, monsieur Eugène Meehan, le président du Barreau de la Colombie-Britannique, M. Karl Warner, c.r. Le juge en chef Beverley McLachlin devrait faire également une allocution à cette occasion.
